Away We Go

We had three out of town trips between August and September.  It was kind of crazy, but good.  Well, mostly good.  Here are the highlights.

August in Hilton Head

View from our balcony.  I did not want to leave.

We spent a lot of time on the beach.  We got stung by jellyfish.  We rode bikes.  We ate out every night.  We went to Mi Tierra twice.  Twice.  Because it was that fucking good and they may have made me the best burrito I've ever had in my life.  We swam in the pool.  We went to Savannah and got caught in a rainstorm.  My friend and her boys came up from Atlanta.  I hadn't seen her in six years and when I saw her it felt like six days.  Don't you love friends like that?  Picking right up where we had left off.  We spent even more time on the beach.  We flew kites and saw a stingray.  The Boy asked if we could buy the condo where we were staying.  I wanted to say yes.  People of Hilton Head- we love your town and we will be back.

Labor Day weekend in Stoney Creek

Our friends very generously invite us up to their lake house (Camp!  our hostess from upstate New York corrects me.  It is a camp- a lake house is so pretentious) at least three times every summer.  To us Labor Day means the end of the season and it's always a blast.  Boating, tubing, fishing, swimming, booze, baseball, grilling, s'mores...  And this time around French pastries and an almond torte for our host's birthday.  It's hard to go wrong with any of that, really.

September wedding in Maryland

I'm a sucker for weddings.  The Kids and The Husband (his side of the family) were in one last month, and I was very excited.  I saw my endocrinologist the day before we left, and when he asked what our weekend plans were, I told him.  'Oh.' he said.  'Having your kids in weddings is a lot of work.  I've had kids in two weddings so far.  A lot of work.'  Whatever, I thought.  I love weddings.  Seriously.  I will have a good time.

OK.  He was right.  It was, um... a lot of work.  Especially since their Dad was in the wedding too.  Anyway.  What's more important is that the weather was lovely for an outdoor wedding, everything seemed to go off without a hitch, and the happy couple is really quite happy.  And The Kids? Could not have been more thrilled to be in the wedding.  And then I got to come home, drink wine, and go to bed early.

And, we've been home ever since.
